I had heard this band mentioned and shared and in the case of Afflicted Truth its not good, its just a bombardment of noise and absolutely no sense or distinction in the songs. I’ve listened to a lot of death metal in my day, and most of which is not Christian. I don’t have what I would call a tall order in being able to please me, but this album from start to finish was just like a nauseating repeat of each track after another.
Christian metal is not to be taken seriously, and for good reason. Growing up and not being aware of or knowing much of any different kinds of genres of music, it was hard for me to navigate and find the “goods”. I don’t like to rub elbows with just anybody, but if I have to I hope the pursuit of advancement is in mind.
And no I am not talking about REEEE LIDGE EEE OOOON as you youngsters, like to equate it with Christ. The banquet feast and the celebration and defeat of sin and death, was no celebration it was a crucifixion and a painful cost. Betrayal, lies, deceit, greed, larceny, there was no wrong not done or shown in the bible. Those same nasty habits and behaviors still exist today, just are now more subtler and easier for the youth to disguise and hide behind in facade or grandstand statement, to declare their unequally yoked lifestyle. All of this language, and words are valid and point driven, its not my interest to pretend or to please any ears. I just want the message to get through loud and clear. Christ is the only mediator between you and death. The divide is life and death, hell and heaven. This world while miserable, and just enough to adapt to, it will come to an end whether good or bad is anyone’s guess? but I would hope in the grander scheme of things it be relatively painless, and a bit distressing, maybe confusing, but somber and immediate.
Musicians and men, we are called to be servants bondservants and slaves to the grind. Christian metal is not out to impress or wow people. Its to be involved and to be in community, and brotherhood and sisterhood with others. There is no community, and no benefit from 1-man projects. IF you are virtuoso on guitar, congratulations. But get a band together, assemble a team. The last thing you want to be doing, in a ministry is belting out 1 man bands every other 3-4 years. We already have over a dozen if not more, 1 man bands. And its nothing to be proud of, or amused by. Its lack of a better word, an inability to work with other people. The very instrumental and core of Christianity should be the body and fellowship and developing in yourself a character and a person who can cohabitate with other people. Somebody to rely on, and some somebody dependable.
I mean no words with the man who made this music, its not trash, its an honest effort, but your skills and ability could very well be used better in a fully outfitted band. Addressing this and sharing its wisdom with others will hopefully improve and better the scene. The satanist and nihilist bunch are going to be an overload of aggression and assault on your morals and ideals, and they will try to dismantle and attack your character and break you down.
