Knowing of and listening to Vulgar Pigeons previously, and finding out that Jeff went on to make this band and turned his life over to Christ, was very encouraging to say the least.
While I am not sure the vocalist Berto Salas himself is a christian. He did agree to vocal duties for this release. And while not the most guttural, he does achieve a good effort with this.
And in comparison to other releases and material this is my favorite from the band. Where this band shines is in its lyrics.
The music is standard fare, but it does definitely appeal to my death metal interests. The drums pummel along and its all played pretty fast. Rarely changing tempo.
While nothing to write home about, some of the solo work is applaudable. I do like a lot of the shifts and changes and the overall sound here. Its very standard mid grade death metal. Perhaps if grading in comparison to other christian death metal, I would actually grade this higher in comparison.
What is most disappointing to me, is that with their most recent work, “One Law One King”. This album absolutely devastates that! whereas this sounds and succeeds as death metal. That album just pales to this. The vocals are not at all what I would consider death metal. And overall the music seems to be lesser effect. I probably wont even review that, because I just simply didn’t care for it.
