Galatians 3:3 “Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?”
Borrowing from a devotional that Johnny Chang shared today in my inbox.
And there is a distinction from the soul and spirit. I believe our emotions, and “feelings” rely somewhere in the soul. I believe the communication with God is through the spirit.
❤️ Soul
Genesis 35:18
“It came about as her soul was departing (for she died), that she named him Ben-oni; but his father called him Benjamin.”
Leviticus 17:11
“For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement.”
Psalm 19:7
“The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.”
Psalm 42:11
“Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him.”
Matthew 10:28
“Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”
Hebrews 6:19
“This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil.”
🩻 Body
Genesis 2:7
“Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground…”
Romans 12:1
“Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.”
1 Corinthians 6:19–20
“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.”
Philippians 3:21
“Who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.”
💨 Spirit
Genesis 2:7
“Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.”
Ecclesiastes 12:7
“Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.”
Zechariah 12:1
“Thus declares the Lord who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him.”
Job 32:8
“But it is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty gives them understanding.”
Romans 8:16
“The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God.”
James 2:26
“For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.”
This is a small example, and a quick copy and paste. I am doing my own personal reading, and something that is good to take note and practice of, is discerning and reading scripture from the old testament versus the new testament.
Something worth mentioning is where your Christianity relies while in situations, where it feels like God is absent. Like a holding cell, homeless shelter, standing between a thug with a gun to your head.
Its easy to be a Christian in a church pew. Operating out of faith and not emotions and appealing to a crowd is difficult.
Are we trying to get favor from the sinner, or are we trying to convince the sinner of Christ? and the absolute need for repentance and faith.
