Deeds of Flesh – death metal, science fiction

I still remember when I first heard Deeds of Flesh, because of it was one of those moments not unlike hearing Suffocation. It was that same kind of NY or midwest, USA brutal death metal sound. It was much more akin to the brutal, and less of the symphonic though.

I do like their older work, its not really my priority or interest though as a whole. What I love about Deeds of Flesh is when they started to explore into space, and dig deeper into their technical capacities.

For me this band really showed form when, “Of Whats to Come…” came out. This intergalactic release, was a huge transition in sound and whole vibe from previous releases. Don’t get me wrong, it is unequivocal death metal, by no stretch of the imagination.

The name of the game is technicality and guitar wizardry, with guitar solos and bass slapping. With gutturals and you know the whole bag, with the double bass, drumming. Its soon becoming a science fiction movie, like the monsters from mars are now the very things that are creating this inhuman music for our ears.

I love it! it doesn’t sound human at all. The only unfortunate consequence is that they lost one of the core components of this sound and that being Erik Lindmark.

I was hungry for some great death metal tonight, and this slab of fills the bill perfectly well.
