Disencumbrance MMVIII 2020 EP

Disencumbrance or Detrimental need little to no introduction. I first heard this band alongside some other legendary bands from Texas. This was the Chords of the Grave compilation, ok so maybe not all the bands on there are from Texas, but I think a majority were if I remember correctly.

Well after getting into a death metal kick, I found my spirit was not feeling too keen on the secular stuff. So I started to do what I often do, and began to search and look into more of the CHRISTIAN lyrics written death metal.

I thought I had heard all from Disencumbrance but I learned there are actually some new material particularly this EP and the very first DEMO they put out.

In the case of this EP, this music is definitely feeling like more of something they would have released earlier. This to me sounds like more like older and demo material. Really nothing too special, its fast and brutal. The vocals aren’t as good I think. Drumming is a bit more rough, and the overall sound and production just sounds more rough and basic.

I really hate writing reviews anymore about music. But for archival purposes I do want to try and put out as much as I possibly can. These songs all have brief little intros, whether eerie and ominous or actual verbal words.

I would definitely put this as some of the worst of their work. But its far from the worst I have heard especially in this genre. Just not anything special after hearing their other material. I mean I think arguably the Disencumbrance tracks from that Chords of Grave comp are some of the best if not the best on that compilation.
