Realize I am early to write this, but I was spontaneously listening to some of their material earlier today. And it really put a spark in me! hearing the classics BEFOULED WITH ZEST and COLLONY of MAGGOTS. These were some of the songs that echoed around my bedroom as I was younger.
My initial interest in Malta Death Metal was largely to do with Beheaded. The first couple albums from that band really solidified my interest in the Malta blend of death metal. But another band from this same region captured and brought an all together new interest and love.
This is not necessarily grindcore but its much more brutal, and vicious. One thing that is evident is the drumming, by Wayne Vella. Some of the patterns with not only the drums but the vocal layers and variations combined with the guitar riffs and it all colliding and coming together in a brutal mix.
Where I would see Beheaded much more into the traditional death metal pedigree. I saw Abysmal Torment in a very brutal variety.
My favorites are and were from Wayne era. I cannot be stressed to even listen to the new material. The band ended after his death. And like Beheaded sadly the same fate is with them.
I did have the displeasure of hearing the new Beheaded and its commercial and trash. Not to mention the lyrics and message are becoming more and more anti-christian.
