This album is shrouded in mystery and obscurity. It was noted that Chuck did write and put together the material for this album. Whatever this is, it does sound great. Whether or not Schuldiner had anything to do with it, is a mystery to me.
I have been a huge Death fan and then became a even bigger Control Denied fan. Traditional metal hasn’t always been my foray or interest. Its hard for me to tolerate or enjoy a lot of it.
Honestly what got me about the Sound of Perseverance was the fact that it seemed like Chuck’s voice was about had it, and he was much more inspired and interested in traditional metal then. And after hearing Control Denied the music was very similar to that album, but it had a more traditional heavy metal vocalist.
The whole discography and music of Death is a bit confusing even to me. Because when I first heard it, I couldn’t for the life of me interest me in Symbolic, I was much more into the earlier and older albums. But as time went on, Symbolic slowly became my favorite album from them period!
I cannot talk about death metal or metal in general without mentioning Chuck Schuldiner. He isn’t a stranger, and most give him his dues. But then there are others, who simply rag on the man because he was an innovator and great guitar player. Wasn’t interested in ego and flexing his muscles for pride. He played the guitar better than most, and his solos and guitar meledys are out of this world, sound like arrangements invented in heaven.
RIP Chuck you are loved and missed.
