Panzer Dragoon Saga end of disc 3

Went on a loooong hiatus from playing this game, but I had a urge again finish what I started. This game is brilliant, and so many ways. I like this more than Final Fantasy 7 or any other top tier rpg’s. This game has the most unique and refreshing installments to a rather stale genre of games. Well the final disc is on its way.

Scrapper 2013 – movie review, spoilers included

I find movies like this particularly interesting not because of the actual style or presentation, but more to do with the psychology of the character, in this case Hollis Wallace  (Michael Beach in the real life – third watch tv series) who makes a living picking scrap metal, and then trading it in for money. You don’t get much of any kind of backstory on him, he is a mystery, and it seems anyone who manages to intersect into his private life, will tell you ahead of time, that he far from an open book.

He has mother living with him, and they have a nurse/baby sitter type, who watches his mom while he is out scrapping metal. A lot of the scenes and scenarios you he encounters seem a little overboard, and pretty unbelievable, particular in regards to sexual and bizarre bdsm. In this case, Hollis finds a girl will change his life forever. The character who portrays the sexual deviance, is Aiden Gillen, you might recognize him from Game of Thrones or a favorite of mine he plays in called Buddy Boy.
Throughout the movie you get this idea, that his systematic kind of living, and his lack of any sort of human relationship, aside from his mom and their  caretaker. Eventually he meets up with the girl was gagged and tied up in the basement of Aiden Gillen’s character. She recognizes him, and vice versa. They get into a discussion about her lifestyle, and then his defense of scrapping metal for money. Throughout this exchange of conversation, she is convinced she wants to help him scra, and he is very much against the idea. Eventually he is coerced into helping him.
Throughout their time scrapping metal, and her eventually living with him. They develop a relationship. In what I think was life changing experience for Hollis. For a man who is alone, and unaware of his own depression, she offers a peace or comfort to him.
This wasn’t great, it wasn’t terrible, it was definitely entertaining enough to watch. But to me it rests somewhere in the middle. I think it would have been better if there was a little bit of a backstory to our protagonist. Worth a watch if you are into independent films.

music ratings, and what goes on top

I wanted to make mention, that I admit going a little overboard in the ratings for music. I have made some inaccurate scores. Noticing a particular stretch, when it should have been left in the mid to lower score. I will start looking through reviews and making a more accurate judgment. Just thought this was worth mention.

I haven’t yet been able to put together a top 10, or top 5 list of favorite albums of 2015, but I think that would be good to share. And I fit myself in with all of the other metal sites. I have found myself bored with a lot of what is being put out. In particular the bigger name bands.

Funerus – Festering Earth

Artist: Funerus
Album: Festering Earth
Year: 2003

Incantation is responsible for creating a form of death metal, that emphasis itself in slow foreboding melodies and speedily transitions, without warning. I say they are responsible because there is more than a handful of bands that play in this style. I think in popular terms, they call it blackened death metal. I myself can only tolerate a few black metal bands, but when that style is borrowed and used in death metal, I find it to be a genre I can really appreciate

Introduction aside, I would like to talk about a band called Funerus, one that especially shares in style with Incantation because John McEntee and wife Jill play in the band. It does separate itself from Incantation in sound. It is more slow and broadened over with doom and death. Though it does explode into speedily hostile pieces.

Festering Earth lays out excellent mid sections which are slowed down, and you can hearth the double bass kick some ass, while screaming agonizing gutturals, perpetuate form. I haven’t heard their newest release (at the time of january 2016)  Reduced to Sludge. But this is a piece of death metal that is definitely worth your time and money. I will easily lump this in the sum of music I like most.

Incantation – Upon the Throne of Apocalypse

Artist: Incantation
Album: Upon The Throne Of Apocalypse
Year: 1995

Limited to 1000 copies, Upon The Throne Of Apocalypse  is the remastered edition of Mortal Throne Of Nazarene. Separated by only a year apart, the sound difference takes a little bit of repeated listens to actually understand the purpose of remastering in the first place. Most notably is the remastered edition has a fuller sound, maybe even a bit distorted, I think the statement I made earlier is the most accurate and that being the sound is overall “full”.

I guess the biggest question on everyone’s mind, is was the remastered version necessary? and to me yes. Once heard, I would only listen to Upon the Throne of the apocalypse. The earlier 1994 edition, is generally more clean sounding, a bit flat.

Of course this being one of their best releases, either version can more than well satiate your hunger for some death metal, in its most pure form. But if you got the going price of around $50, to shell out for the remastered it is more than worth it in my opinion.

delusion

If one thing I have found in life that injects a willingness to continue on this world we live, it is the ability to embrace and accept delusion. Without delusion, without the ability to entertain our imaginations with the unreal and unseen, the mysterious ways of life. We read old texts and embrace the principles and precepts. We obey they cautions they construct, its all in a natural scenario we obey. When we find ourselves down, we allow our minds to think back to the delusions we create in our minds. Of course we don’t consciously accept the things in our minds as delusion, but we obey them and see them as truth.

The ones who live the most fulfilling lives, are the ones who build and develop great delusion. They ignore reality, and embrace delusion. It distracts our minds from reality, it gives us a hope that is unforeseen. When you are in the conundrum of life, the battle of a 12 hour job, you need something to fall back on that is more healthy than nursing a bottle of alcohol. So we interest ourselves in delusion.

I hope that I am not giving a negative impression, I for one wish I could accept delusion. My life would be more worthwhile. Would give my body strength to exist. But I have tasted too much of reality, I have existed in the numbing pain of reality. It’s a battle much like good and evil.

Impress your imagination, entertain the thoughts… give weight into the unknown. Allow the unknown to exist within yourself. Battle the negative, and possess the illusions.

random update post

I’ve been occupied with work. As far as outside of work is concerned I have been getting a little back into gaming, mostly emulation based, because it’s too expensive to try buy all the games I used to own and enjoy on their original console. I was on a bit of a Genesis stint awhile back, as you could tell from the Contra, Chakan and Splatterhouse posts. Currently I am really get back into gaming on the Saturn, this is a console that I have bought multiple times in the past, have used it for imports, and (shhhh!) bootleg games, I remember all the tricks you could do with the system. I love it. I used to work doing lawncare with my brother, and all my checks went to was buying Saturn games, this was back when gamestop was called Funcoland. So there is this jolt of nostalgia mixed in with my desire to detach myself from reality. Afterall that is all entertainment is used for is to distract ourselves. I should be putting my time towards something more productive. But to be honest, as long as my mind is occupied, it doesn’t matter with what, it is the better for my sake. For the record the game I am currently playing is Panzer Dragoon Saga. This is a game I used to actually own way back in the day, I paid $150 for it off of ebay, the guy I bought it from was kind enough to even include a import of X-Men Vs. Street Fighter, and a 4mb cart for the saturn. I used to use ebay, regularly back in late 90’s early 00’s.

Aside from gaming I am still watching some horror movies, last night I watch the Last House on the Edge of the Park. It was alright, wasn’t as shocking as I was initially expecting, but I guess I have to keep in mind the time period, it was probably more shocking back then. Anyway, as the movie started to progress, I actually started to side with the “villains”, but once they took it too far, I guess I started to feel more empathy for the people in the house. Also one helluva plot twist right at the end. I won’t spoil it for anyone, just go watch the movie it’s pretty farking awesome.

Still listening to a lot of the same music I have all my life or some new recent additions in the the last couple years. Some new bands I’ve heard recently which are pretty damn good include Blaspherian, Heresiarch, Kever and Chthe’ilist. I am really into any music that resembles Incantation, Dead Congregation… very darkened death metal. Some forerunners in the genre are Lvcifyre and Desolate Shrine, those two bands are very consistent in their sound, it never changes much, but it never gets boring to me. I am started to hate more and more, bands that trying to be guitar virtuosos. I like raw and dirty built atmosphere, something that you have to concentrate to understand and listen. I love the nihilistic and suicidal approach in lyrical content.

Well after writing this I now feel like a huge nerd, and I guess I am to be honest. I find myself interested in things that would seem juvenile or a “waste”. I should be out trying to bang chicks, and party and all that. To be honest it all feels behind me. I am done with that part of my life. I relish in isolation, and gaining more and more momentum for when the clock hits that point of no return.

community

I would like to collaborate or work with other like minded individuals that share the taste in movies, games music etc. Whether or not you have a  blog/web site, is unimportant, though I would still like to have some kind of community focus, where we can  build an alliance of web pages. If anyone is interested in writing/drawing, whatever the case. Please get in contact with me. And lets see what we can accomplish as a community. I get kind of bored with sharing and trying to inspire myself alone. I want to see some others offer their opinions and ideas.

So if this sounds something of even remote interest, comment or email me.

Mayhem – Esoteric Warfare 2014

Artist: Mayhem
Album: Esoteric Warefare
Year: 2014

I have never been a huge fan of Mayhem, sure loved the old classics like Chainsaw Gutsfuck and the mega opus Freezing Moon, and of course the extensive lore and fascination with bands history. But I will be the first to admit that I don’t necessarily care too much for their music. I say this all because I was surprised when I listened to their new album Esoteric Warfare. To me this is a very unique and unparalleled in concern to their older material. I know this is of the utter most blasphemous diatribe to be uttered, considering the elitist kvlt vibe about this, and trve black metal. But I like to consider myself somebody who is grounded in reality, and does not put myself into a corner when it comes to music.

The album just plays out with odd sounds and melodies, sometimes simple strings played out to some ominous background whisper. I especially like the track Trinity, which includes a sample from J. Robert Oppenheimer, giving his speech which includes the lines, “Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds…”, chilling speech and the songs just commemorates the destructive and hell bent nature of war and atomic bombs, wiping out cities. The negative nature just find itself so appealing. Then you hear sirens amidst the song, just to add an uneasy feeling.
The overall sound is really hard to describe, it’s often odd time signatures, multiplied by the agonizing screams of the vocalist. Little distinction and direction, just a off the wall, wallop bashed against the wall. I have given this album a considerable amount of listens, and it still has appealing value to me. It’s just ominous and chaotic blend of mismatch in sounds. Esoteric indeed.

the Green Inferno

One thing that cannot be emulated is the vintage quality of older films, sure you can deteriorate quality to branch a similar view, but we are all none the wiser to tactics as such. I bring this up, because film makers like Eli Roth, Quentin Tarantino and Rob Zombie all have this love for old classic b-movie, sleaze films. I cannot stress enough the interest, that I also have for films of the past, particularly in the regard to vintage cinematography. If you’re wondering what the hell I am talking about, do yourself a favor and go watch the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Cannibal Holocaust or the first two Evil Dead movies, all of which display accurately what I am talking about.

The movie that I am going to discuss today, is Eli Roth’s new Green Inferno, a homage to Cannibal Holocaust. The movie begins in such a way, that you gain a interest in the roles of each character. Much of his films, I think develop a interest in the characters, so that it is all the more painful to watch said characters getting butchered. And he follows this formula hook line and sinker. Our character of interest is Justine, a college freshman, who is interested in “causes”, all of which make her feel better about taking a stand against the viles of reality. So she naturally gets involved with a group of social justice warriors. The intention is to exploit the destruction of jungles, by using their phones and satellite link, to expose the ravaging.

I like the idea of the exploiting of persons who are interested in “causes”, and they are more interested in getting their name out in social media. It’s like doing a job, and then somebody pays you to take credit for your work. It’s all about blind dedication. So with this in mind, it wasn’t terribly painful for me to watch the killings of this group. Albeit, you never really get to know any of them except for Justine. But one thing that does come into fruition is the evil intentions of their “leader” (I don’t know what to call him?), a selfish instruction, for profitable gain.

Let me get into focus the main interest points I had in expectation of watching this film. First being the gore, I was enticed to see what modern film can do to a brutal movie like this. And I was rather disapointed, I see nothing here that could be a “trump” or 1up, in comparison to the original Cannibal Holocaust or really any other prolific exploitation, or sleazey b-movie. Don’t get me wrong it does have some pretty unique and terrifying displays but they are all rather mundane, when filmed in a hollywood mass media appeal. As I mentioned earlier the ingredient to an Eli Roth film, is to get yourself semi attached to the characters, and then find yourself guilt ridden when you see them devoured by death. Much of what people say nowadays about movies like this is “torture porn”, or whatever the hell you want to name. I personally think that is silly to say, considering there is next to no nudity in this film, yes you might peep a nipple, but even when in distress by the cannibals, they still manage to keep just enough clothing to void any really nudity.

One thing that I found interesting about the movie, was that the characters find themselves in some pretty shameful and taboo situations. For starters the bathroom scenes in the jungle. You will see a girl have a diarrhea fit, and a their noble group leader try to rub one off, while sitting among his traveling crew. Little things like this, are not necessary, but he included them, to keep a level sleaze I think. Something to emulate the films of old. In ‘Cannibal Holocaust you would witness some very human situations, that were not shy about getting in film.

Well, I don’t know if I made a coherent enough review, but in closing, I have to say that I was disappointed with Green Inferno. I respect Eli Roth for his interest in the b-movie classics. But he garners no real appeal or value, when trying to stand toe to toe with the classics. He fails miserably in trying to deliver anything even remotely commendable, it just downright spirals into shit. There were some elements to like about the film, for me the most important was the exploitation of social justice groups. Much like hipsters, if  not to join the two together as is… the whole idea of these groups just makes me fucking sick. And if cannibalized, it leaves little on my conscious to witness. So in closing, the movie is entertaining enough to watch, but as far as trumping or even developing a cult status, it definitely is not in that caliber. It comes off as very unauthentic, and almost trivializes any serious effect.

real gross suicide pics

Sorry to disappoint you, but there aren’t any suicide pics on this blog. I think because of one of my posts linking to a picture of the notorious TUBGIRL, I have gained a bit of attention from the sick and deprived. I really have a hard time gauging the viewership of this blog, if any. All the same it’s pretty humorous to me. Maybe I should just align a search string of all of the sickest and weird stuff, to get disappointed visitors. Oh well fuck it! I am finally going to see Green Inferno, the Eli Roth homage to Cannibal Holocaust. Adios amigos.

[GAMING] Splatterhouse 3 for the Sega Genesis

Splatter House 3 is a side scrolling beat em’ up for the Sega Genesis. It’s the predecessor to the games before it, yet a precursor for the new game on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. The nature of the game is dark and atmospheric, a bit of Friday the 13th and Michael Myers. You lead the battle as a character named Rick, who seems to be possessed by a mask, that is like a separate personality from himself. He wants nothing more than to rescue his wife Jennifer and son David, from within a mansion that is riddled with all kinds of demons and apparitions, monsters etc.

The difficulty of this game is pretty stellar, even on low difficulties you can easily get your ass handed to you, if you’re not wise to getting drops, particularly books which will give you an extra life. It’s important to be well stocked on lives because you’re guaranteed to be dying a good deal. Other power ups, include hearts which give you health, and there are little blue orbs which will assist in your power up, where Rick gets all super buff and goes beast mode. I believe if you play on the hardest difficulty, “game master” you will gain access to extra levels known simply as “Stage X”, this is the best opportunity to score on books (extra lives).

You will navigate through a mansion, where you can look at the map when you complete particular room. This will help you get to the boss in the fastest route possible. After all the game is timed, and if you’re too slow you might miss out on saving Jennifer or David. In the best case scenario, you rescue the both of them and get the “good” ending.

What I like most about this game is, as I said before the atmosphere. It just has this dark and eerie vibe about it, and it’s insane to think this is old Genesis game. I remember playing this as kid, and those cut scenes scared the ever living shit out of me. To this day, the whole package they put together runs very well, and is unparalleled by other games at the time, and even today. I could compare this to, the first Resident Evil game, where they opted for live action fmv’s. There is something about that, that just works perfectly.

As I said before, I played this game as an adolescent, so it does have a particular nostalgic piece about it. But I can be for certain, had not played it as a youth, I would still find its dark and eerie display charming. I have made the claim before, that Sega showcased some of the darker and sicker kinds of games, stuff with more of an adult vibe about it. This game in particular represents that very well.

[GAMING] Genesis bloody fun

All the blood guts and thrills, on the Sega Genesis!

Why doesn’t Sega get the recognition it so surely deserves? it seems like whenever I hear about Sega it is usually trumped by the Nintendo fans who are quick to spout off names like Metroid, Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy, Mario RPG etc. etc. no doubt the SNES’s hardware stellar in comparison to the Genesis. But to what the Genesis was, what the SNES wasn’t is that it was a system that showcased a lot of titles that are bloody, gorey and have adult themes. The Genesis was the adult system out of the bunch. Mortal Kombat all blood and spills, Splatterhouse, Chakan… all titles with dark themes and not shy about a little blood. So I guess if you ask me, the Genesis and Sega as a whole, was not afraid to have titles that were adult in theme. Snes just felt like a kids toy to me, it wasn’t into making titles that are dark and evil. They instead are into making a lot of family friendly games. I guess this whole rant can be summarized in one sentence. And that is Sega Genesis blood and guts… amen!

[GAMING] Chakan the Forever Man – Sega Genesis

Out of will to continue I just wanted to reiterate the impossible difficulty of Chakan the Forever Man, this piece of shit game has the worst possible controls, its very clunky and unresponsive. But that is only icing on the cake when you come to terms with what you’re actually dealing with, a helluva beast.

This is an intense platformer, with an emphasis on strategy, and well planning. I like the game because of the character design and the overall presentation, I’ve always been a fan on Chakan, I just liked the way the character himself looks. It’s just a cool game, which I wish could have been perfected, particularly in the control scheme and play mechanics.

Portals lead to mission, each completed portal offers a new weapon of use. Each weapon has a purpose to get through a level, particularly in the effect of swinging to higher spots or just to get through an area. It’s probably one of the most pain in the ass moments of the game, because it is so damn easy to miss the  grapple, and then you drop to your death, and are forced to repeat and redo all over again. If you run out of time in a portal, you have start the whole portal all over again. I cannot give this game any crap in the regard to difficulty, because who doesn’t like a challenge? but the only thing that harbors this from being a excellent game, is the clunky and terrible controls. The music is pretty annoying too, it does have a dark atmospheric way about it. But whether it be the Gensis hardware or just a lazy sound department, it just doesn’t do it for me.

Sometimes there are secret walls to gain access through, to finish a portal. You really do have to rely on your arsenal of weapons, and spells to best the game. It does utilize magic and weaponry really  well, its got some depth and its not just a one dimensional side scroller, you do have to use your head and thats what I do like about the game. I just wish it had a better control and response. Each portal has 3 levels, and once completed then you have to enter the portals again and try to finish the game. I am currently stuck at the final portals, it’s just a giant pain in the ass. I get through an area, and then I run out of time, so now I have to do it all over again. But one thing is certain, I love the look and design of this game, and the difficulty is not going to ward me away from playing, I will beat this piece of shit of a game, because I love the challenge.

[GAME REVIEW] Contra Hard Corps for the Sega Genesis

One of the most difficult, challenging, yet ironically fun side scrolling/platform I have played is Contra Hard Corps, its name very fitting considering the difficulty this game encompasses. Right from the start you are thrown into a fast side scrolling moment, into the next, play with two people is especially hard because you have to keep up with one another, otherwise the screen will take you out in a sweeping death. This was a title the Sega Genesis desperately needed, having a long history of Contra titles on the Nintendo consoles, it was nice to have a port finally available, and exclusive for the Genesis.

The visuals are nice, and this game actually does show some of the hardware capabilities the Genesis can display. I know on the SNES Contra, that game has some 3D affects that I am for certain that the Genesis could not handle, but Hard Corps all in itself, shows a new visual masterpiece that the Genesis has at its helm.

Everything about this game, just screams 2D visual feast, and the most appealing part about the title is of course the difficulty. It’s one of the more unforgiving titles on the Genesis, but the gameplay is great and runs fantastic. So albeit death is right around the corner, it does indeed keep you gripped to the controller to finish each map. And speaking of which, all maps/levels have a new development, whether you be flying, or floating, or whatever else scenario you can imagine, this game has it. It’s not a boring side scrolling beat ’em up. no this game has good reason to keep you on your toes, because the later levels literally knock you right off your toes and into the sky.

I always liked this game, because I have fond memories of playing it co-op over the internet, with a long time friend. We would wrestle the 1st map, over and over, trying to save all the lives that we can. But like I said earlier I think the game is a bit more difficult on two-player.

Well I finally was able to beat the game, and it was a anti-climatic ending, but an ending all the same. A game like this, when you beat it, it’s considered an accomplishment.

health

Depression is a metaphysical ailment that debilitates a person from attaining a livable life. The key emphasis is “life”. For all intensive purposes (I always wanted to say that in a sentence), I would much rather see myself stiff underground, decomposing and being in eternal sleep. But I have not yet found myself, at a level of completion where I could confidently greet death. To me, I do not want to die because of depression, or because of life being unbearable. I want death to be something special, something complete, something that I welcome with open arms. My goal in life is to be in eternal rest, but at this point in my life, I am not confident in presenting myself over to death.

“The Satanist decides of his own life and death and prefers to go out with a smile on his lips when he has reached his peak in life, when he has accomplished everything, and aim to transcend this earthly existence. But it is completely un-satanic to end one’s own life because one is sad or miserable. The Satanist dies strong, not by age, disease or depression, and he chooses death before dishonor! Death is the orgasm of life! So live life accordingly, as intense as possible!
-Jon Kristiansen, Metallion: The Slayer Mag Diaries, p. 569

I like to live by this philosophy, with the exception of being a satanist, I consider that contradictory to my life. All the same I think I am in 100% agreement with the aforementioned quote.

With this all being said, I find one of the greatest deterrents of depression is exercise. Now I am not going to be full fledged into this, like I have been in the past. And I am not trying to being physically fit by aesthetics of the human body. I am trying to just follow a simple set of principles, and try to achieve strength gain, and not be concerned with diet, looks, weight etc. A unhealthy approach to a healthy life style, a contradiction, most would say. But my abilities are efficient, and I am not debilitated in any way, this is not to get me out of some kind of obesity or  life obstacle that prevents from be able to physical do something.

So starting today I will begin a process of weight training, mostly barbell, dumbells and will do pushups and dips. I will follow the 5×12 plan, and in the case of pushups, 4×30, and try to reach 500 pushups daily, and all the while do some kind of weight training for arms. Eliminating situps and any kind of cardio, I will get my cardio from work, and my daily routine of walking. I am content with having a fat gut, I really don’t care about looks as I said before. I am doing this only for mind, and well being. Trying to curb depression, and get stronger.

I think the workout culture, and “muscles” is pretty effing gay, but I am more concerned about my well being and a healthy mental life. I will try to follow some simple principles, and maintain an active work life, as well implement simple exercise goals that will be easy enough to accomplish my  daily life. Adios.

Moonspell ripoff Infinitum Obscure

I am not one to get into any kind of gossip like news, but I thought this was worth mentioning if for nothing more than offer exposure to the underground. It seems as if a poster, for the band Moonspell ripped off a lesser known band Infinitum Obscure.
