I was thinking about this while listening to Pierced from Within, and much of their other albums for that matter. The question arises from time to time, and I personally think they are. They are consistent, they never let up and continue to create more brutal art that both inspires and motivates.
So yes, I do think that Suffocation is the best death metal band.
Which is odd to me, because in terms of current death metal, I would easily pick a band like Dead Congregation, Malignant Alter, Cruciatmentum or Disma. Honestly, I think Disma would get the title if they had a fuller discography.
One thing I can say for certain is that I do sincerely miss Frank Mullen, while the new guy has the chops and potential to carry the band onward, it just isn’t the same to me. I know the same old’ jaded fanboy shit.
